The Northern California Shriver Family - bible records

Bible Records?
Bible records play a vital part in our family research. If you are part of a family that uses a family bible to record births, death and marriages then you are very fortunate. Not only is a family Bible a true family treasure but it can be packed full of genealogical information. Before birth and death certificates were required by law the family bible was often the only place a birth or death of a family member was recorded. So the next time you are at a family members house and you see an old bible on the verge of falling apart sitting on the book shelf, ask to take a look. You may discover a priceless piece of family history.

Missing Bible
So far we have very little bible record information on the descendants of George Shriver and Catherine Burns between 1790 and the early 1900's if any at all. it was common for families to record births, deaths and marriages in a family bible but so
far we have been unable to locate one. We are certain there must have been one but due to the size of the family, locating it, if there is one, has been difficult. Below is a photo of the Isaac Shriver (born August 20, 1824 Ohio) family. The significance of this photo are the books on the table. These may be family bibles. Who has them? For more information on the Isaac Shriver Family please take a look at our family index.

Thomas / Shriver Bible
When Amelia Alice Thomas (1889 - 1951) married Francis Ralph Shriver (1878 - 1942), she brought to the family her Thomas family bible. The bible is dated 1872 and contains the names of about 50 people from the Shriver and Thomas families. Below is a transcription of some of those entries:

Notes: I assume that the ages listed for some of these people is their age at the time of their death. I am not sure how all of these people fall together but the following is what I do know:

Samuel H. Thomas married Mary Jane Grannis
their children were:
Amelia Alice
Lucy May
Marie Viola
Samuel H.
Lula May

The three other Grannis listed must be the siblings of Mary Jane Grannis.

Alsenborn Schreiber Bible
An online friend sent me the image of the Alsenborn Schreiber Family tree. It appears in their family bible and dates back to the 1660's. Due to the size of the print and the quality of the original document in order to maintain the integrity of the image and to maintain legibility the image may take as long as 3 to 4 minutes to load due to it's file size. If you would like to read more about this Schreiber family or would like to view the GEDCOM file I have compiled on this family please visit The Descendants of Lorenz Schreiber.

SHRIVER BIBLES Do you have a Shriver bible? If so why not share it's information with others researching the surname. If you have a bible with information about any Shriver please share it with us.
